Artist Statement
Nathanlie Marie works mainly with ceramics and textile art to investigate the impacts of memory, as well as individual and collective identity, on the human experience. Informed by their lived experience, Marie is fascinated with the complex emotions brought on by sentimentality towards mundane objects and situations. Using familiar imagery and objects, combined with a bright and whimsical artistic style, the artist creates visual narratives which encourage the audience to reflect on how memory affects their perception of their surrounding environment.
